New express clinic holds grand opening

Community Express Care, Parma Community General Hospital’s new express clinic in the Olmsted Falls Discount Drug Mart, holds its grand opening on Saturday, August 23.

 

Immunizations, sports physicals, non-emergency medical care, and testing for infections from mononucleosis to strep throat can be handled at this accessible and convenient clinic in the Drug Mart at Columbia and Bagley roads. Staffed by certified nurse practitioners and overseen by Board-certified family practice physician Matt Frantz, DO, the walk-in clinic sees patients as young as 2 years old.

 

Most visits will take about 15 minutes. The nurse practitioner, who holds a master’s degree in advanced practice nursing and has highly developed clinical training, can write prescriptions when appropriate.

 

Other conditions the nurse practitioner can treat include:

  • Bee stings, cuts and abrasions
  • Bronchitis, sinus infections, upper respiratory infections
  • Stomach viruses, acute diarrhea, mononucleosis
  • Cold sores, common warts, acne
  • Pink eye, swimmer’s ear, ear infections
  • Poison ivy, ringworm, athlete’s foot
  • Urinary tract infections in females ages 12-65

 

The nurse practitioners can administer immunizations are for flu, pneumonia, tetanus, hepatitis B and measles/mumps/rubella and screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and tuberculosis. Other services include suture/staple removal, urine pregnancy testing and ear wax removal. Parents also can take their children for physical exams required for school, sports and camp.
