Friday, October 16, 2009

Parma Hospital has opened its second health clinic inside a local drug store.

At Community Express Care, inside the Discount Drug Mart at 6160 Brecksville Road in Independence, certified nurse practitioners can provide immunizations, screenings and treatment for basic ailments.

The clinic can take patients as young as 2 years old. Most visits take just 15 minutes. Staff can diagnose and treat common, non-emergency conditions such as:

  • Ear infections, sinus infections and upper respiratory tract infections
  • Stomach viruses, acute diarrhea and mononucleosis
  • Cold sores, common warts and eczema
  • Insect bites, bee stings, cuts and abrasions
  • Seasonal allergies, minor rashes and minor colds

The certified nurse practitioners also perform immunizations for pneumonia, tetanus, hepatitis B and measles/mumps/rubella. Screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar are available, as well as exams needed for students to participate in sports and camps.

“On the first day, I was hugged by a patient so grateful that I have come to ‘her store,’” says Melissa Nemeth, certified nurse practitioner. “I definitely think we’re filling a niche in the community.”

The clinic is open weekdays and some weekend days. For hours, call the clinic at 216-447-9155.

Parma Hospital opened its first location of Community Express Care inside the Discount Drug Mart in Olmsted Falls in July 2008.
