Outpatient Wound Center opens at Parma Hospital
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Patients with chronic, non-healing ulcers and wounds now have access to an outpatient clinic with an interdisciplinary team of physicians and nurses dedicated to their treatment.
The Wound Center in Medical Arts Center 2 on the Parma Hospital campus is located in a ground-floor suite for easy accessibility for patients and convenient proximity to other hospital services. The wound team evaluates and treats patient wounds and ulcers, establishing measures to prevent recurrence. They also update the patient’s primary care physician, who continues to manage the patient’s underlying medical condition. The Wound Center is able to treat complex wounds, and care is provided by physicians – ranging from podiatrists and infectious disease specialists to general and vascular surgeons – with specialized knowledge of this type of care.
“The dedicated, knowledgeable staff provides a caring, comfortable environment for patients needing wound treatment,” says podiatrist Salvatore Sidoti, DPM. “Patients appreciate having the resources of Parma Hospital available to them, including laboratory, x-ray and vascular services.”
The interdisciplinary care at the Wound Center is designed to prevent prolonged or permanent disability, improve rate of limb salvage and decrease need for hospitalization. Types of non-healing wounds treated include:
•diabetic, vascular, ischemic, venous stasis
•pressure ulcers
•non-healing surgical wounds
•insect/spider bites
•wounds due to trauma and skin/metastatic malignancies
“The Wound Center provides the kind of excellent, personalized care that patients know they can expect from Parma Hospital,” says President & CEO Patricia A. Ruflin.
The Wound Center is located in Parma Hospital’s Medical Arts Center 2, 6707 Powers Blvd., Suite 106, Parma, Ohio 44129-5495. To make appointments, call 440-743-4247.
