                                                   New for 2012

EMS Education Program adds evening paramedic course

The EMS Program that has educated approximately 2,000 of the region’s Emergency Medical Service providers is now offering an evening course for those interested in a career as a paramedic.

For 27 years, Parma Hospital’s EMS Program has provided education to those seeking to serve the public as basic EMTs and paramedics. EMT-Basic courses run 11 weeks, and the 12-month EMT-Paramedic courses have traditionally only been offered twice a week during the day. The new courses, scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 3, 2012, will now be offered on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

“There is a growing need for quality paramedic classes offered in the evening for individuals looking for a career change,” says EMS Education Manager Joseph Toth. “Evening classes offer individuals who work during the day the opportunity to attend paramedic school, which typically meets during the day.”

EMS Education staff consists of 15 firefighter/paramedics with nearly 400 combined years of experience. Many of these instructors have been teaching at PCGH for 15 years or more.

Applications are now being accepted for candidates interested in a career in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have: a high school diploma or GED; a valid Ohio driver’s license; a valid CPR Healthcare Provider card from the American Heart Association; and – for paramedic candidates – a valid EMT-Basic certification with the State of Ohio.
