Nationally renowned urologist comes to Parma Hospital
to lead new robotic surgery program
A nationally recognized expert in endourologic, minimally invasive and robotic surgery has been named Medical Director for the new Center for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at Parma Community General Hospital.
Carson Wong, MD, FRCSC, FACS, has been ranked annually by Castle Connolly Medical Limited as one of “America’s Top Doctors®” from 2008 to 2011, is cited as one of the Best Doctors in America 2011-12 publication and is rated in the top 1 percent of urologists in the nation in U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly Medical Limited Top Doctors.
He is double Board certified in urology and fellowship trained in endourology, laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. Previously Medical Director for the Center for Robotic Surgery at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Wong has relocated to Cleveland to serve the patients of Parma Hospital, SouthWest Urology, Inc., a large private practice based in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and northeast Ohio.
“Our guiding mission is to provide the highest level of care available within an environment that values each individual patient’s needs,” says Wong. “Providing comprehensive and personalized care is vital to achieve excellent patient outcomes. I relocated from Oklahoma City to deliver the type of care one would expect from a large academic medical center, but in a more personalized setting.”
Wong specializes in the treatment of urologic cancers, stone disease, upper urinary tract reconstruction and laser surgery for benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). He has in excess of 280 presentations at national and international meetings and over 50 peer reviewed publications to his credit, and is one of the most published physicians on the GreenLight™ laser technology for the treatment of BPH.
At Parma Hospital, robotic surgery is currently being done for urologic, gynecologic, general surgery and bariatric patients. The operating suite at Parma Hospital features the latest version of the da Vinci® Surgical Platform, the da Vinci® Si™. This technology provides surgeons with unparalleled, 3D high definition (HD) vision, precision and dexterity for a minimally invasive approach to complex surgical procedures.
“With Dr. Wong, we have the opportunity to build our robotic surgery program around a nationally recognized surgeon who has had experience launching previous successful programs,” says Parma Hospital president & CEO Terrence G. Deis. “He brings the reputation, and provides the drive and vision that will serve residents well in the Parma community as well as attract patients from far beyond Parma Hospital for treatment.”
