Comprehensive Care
The Acute Rehabilitation Center, an inpatient unit that provides comprehensive physical and cognitive rehabilitation, is dedicated to returning patients to independent living at their highest possible level of functioning. The unit is accredited by CARF and has received a special designation for its work with stroke patients.
Nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, psychologists/neuropsychologists and physical, occupational and speech therapists work together toward the optimal care of rehab patients. The team establishes a personalized, flexible treatment program for each patient.
Orthopedic patients may see an orthotist/prosthetist and stroke patients meet with the stroke educator. Discharge planning begins immediately and family members are encouraged to participate to ease the patient’s transition to home so they can live as independently as possible.
A Wide Range of Patients
The accredited, award-winning Acute Rehabilitation Center at Parma Hospital returns its patients to functional independence with higher success than the national average for rehab facilities. During the average two-week stay, patients with a range of conditions regain mobility and strength through quality care and daily therapy.
Services are provided for patients with the following rehabilitation diagnoses:
- Hip fractures
- Stroke (CVA)
- Arthritis
- Brain injury
- Amputation
- Joint replacements
- Congenital deformities
- Major multiple trauma
- Spinal cord injury
Neurological disorders, including:
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Guillain Barré
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Other progressive neurological impairments
Patients must be able to tolerate and benefit from at least three hours of therapy per day, five days per week. The 24-hour nursing unit facilitates the patient’s resumption of activities of daily living, using adaptive devices if necessary.
