Orthopedic care
Orthopedic outcomes at Parma Hospital consistently exceed national averages, as evidenced by the HealthGrades award the hospital has once again received. Parma Hospital has received five-star ratings for joint replacement, total knee replacement and hip fracture repair. Orthopedics surgeons at Parma Hospital offer minimally invasive options and new forms of treatment such as partial knee replacements.

The comprehensive care, which blends experienced orthopedic nurses and therapists with excellent surgeons, begins before the patient undergoes surgery. Joint Camp is a program open to all candidates for joint replacements. Patients bring a support person or “coach” with them to educational sessions that begin four to six weeks prior to surgery. The coach works with the patient to learn the exercises and expectations for post-surgical care and a return to activities of daily living. For more information, call Janet Babinyecz, RN, MSN, coordinator of Joint Camp, at 440-743-4428.
The orthopedics program also features a program tailored to the specialized care of older patients with hip fractures. The Geriatric Hip Fracture Program ensures that patients over 60 go to surgery within 24 to 36 hours of diagnosis and ensures that they are on the mend more quickly.
