The 6 Medical Units Philosophy
Physicians and professional staff take pride in providing an elder-sensitive environment. Many patients are served through the units Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) program, which utilizes established protocols and environmental modifications to improve patient care and prevent functional decline.
Description of the Unit
The Medical unit is a 40-bed acute care unit specializing in geriatrics.
Patient Population
The primary population is adults with medical conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary embolus, gastrointestinal bleeds, urosepsis, wound infections, cellulitis, strokes, and DVT.
Staffing
The staff is team-focused, compassionate, clinically competent, elder-sensitive, outgoing and positive. The nursing team includes RNs, LPNs, and PCAs. Many RNs are certified in gerontology. RNIIs support care, are a clinical resource, and coordinate shift operations for days and evenings, seven days a week. A clinical instructor supports all staff with education.
