The Cardiac Care Units Philosophy
Relationship-based care is the professional practice model for the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). A primary RN declares a therapeutic relationship with a patient. The primary RN establishes the plan of care with the patient, assesses the patients response to treatment, is a coordinator of communication with the patient, family, staff and departments, and also follows through on pending issues.
We believe that nurses have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
Description of the Unit
The medical CCU is a 13-bed acute care unit.
Patient Population
The primary diagnoses for CCU patients are acute myocardial infarction and acute coronary syndrome
Staffing
The RN to patient ratio is generally 1:3. CCU is staffed by RNs and PCAs on day and evening shift and RNs and LPNs on night shift. RNs have flexibility in scheduling 8
and 12-hour shifts.
RN IIs are available on day and evening shifts to provide clinical and operational support for the staff. The night shift is supported by an operations supervisor.
CCU is an environment where healing and technology combine to optimize patient outcomes.
