The Emergency Medicine Unit’s Philosophy

Virtually all medical, surgical and traumatic conditions are treated in the Emergency Department at Parma Hospital . Care is provided by physicians Board-certified in Emergency Medicine, as well as a complete staff of highly qualified professionals who strive to give each patient individualized care.

Description of the Unit

Each of the rooms in the 43-bed unit is equipped to care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Patient Population
The Emergency Department treats more than 43,000 patients of all ages and conditions annually, from minor traumatic injuries and illnesses to complex medical emergencies such as CVA, asthma and COPD.

Staffing
Members of the nursing team include RNs, LPNs, PCAs and SUAs, with a common goal of providing excellent emergency care. Professional Support RNs staff the waiting area to provide comfort care to patients and information to their families and friends.

Staffing is coordinated by the RN IIs around the clock. The RN II provides clinical and operational support for staff on all shifts. All professional staff are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
 
Parma Hospital was the first community hospital in Cuyahoga County to use TPA for strokes and Dermabond for lacerations treated in its ED.
